Hey there fellow bloggers!
Today, we’re diving into the dynamic world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and how it can turbocharge your blog traffic.
Without further-a-do, here are some SEO tips to take you from beginner to hero!
What’s SEO Got to Do with Blogging Anyway?
So, let’s start with the basics. What exactly is SEO, and why should you care about it in the context of your blog? Well, SEO helps make your blog more visible to search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
And you know what that means, right? More visibility equals more traffic! And who doesn’t want that?
The Three Musketeers of SEO: Keyword Research, Optimization, and Backlinks
Now, let’s break down the SEO process into three easy-to-follow steps: keyword research, optimization, and backlinks.
Think of them as the Three Musketeers, but instead of swords, they wield the power of search engine domination!
SEO beginner blog tip 1: Keyword Research
Ah, keyword research, the bread and butter of SEO. This is where you find the perfect keywords to sprinkle throughout your blog posts like a master chef adding seasoning to a dish.
But remember, not all keywords are created equal. You need to choose them carefully to stand out in the crowded blogosphere.
So, how do you do that? Well, we recommend using Google’s Keyword Planner. It’s like having your own personal keyword guru at your fingertips.
Search for keywords that are relevant to your blog post but not too broad. You want to find that sweet spot with high search volume (at least 1K average monthly searches) and low competition.
Trust us; it’s like striking gold!

SEO beginner blog tip 2: Driving down the competition
Just because the keyword planner says the competition is low, doesn’t mean that there will be no competition.
Ranking on the first page for popular keywords is highly competitive!
Luckily, the MozBar extension for Chrome is here to help. We can use it in a Chrome Incognito window (to keep our information from interfering) to gauge the competition on the first page.
Mozbar gives us two metrics to look at: domain authority and page authority. We’re not going to dive too deep into what those mean, but just know the higher the numbers, the tougher the competition.
As new bloggers, we ideally results with both numbers below 25. This way, we stand a chance to take their place in the page!
It’s likely that the keywords you picked from the Keyword Planner are going to be highly competitive. So, make sure to tweak them by adding synonyms or making the search more niche to drive down competition.
We ended up modifying our keyword from “SEO tips” to “SEO tips for beginner WordPress bloggers.” Searching this key phrase gave us these results:

In a perfect world, we would loved to have seen lower numbers. But, the world isn’t perfect and we’d like to spend more time blogging and less time in analysis-paralysis!
SEO beginner blog tip 3: Using Yoast for On-Page SEO
Once you’ve got your keywords locked and loaded, it’s time to optimize your blog post using Yoast, the WordPress plugin superhero.
Yoast not only helps you optimize your content based on your chosen keywords but also makes it more readable and user-friendly. It’s like having your own personal SEO coach cheering you on every step of the way!
Here’s what Yoast had to say initially about our post after plugging in our keyphrase:

Judging by the orange emoji, Yoast isn’t too happy with our SEO performance. But, it will give us the actions we need to take to get that green happy face!
Don’t Get Caught Up with SEO
Now, before you dive headfirst into the SEO rabbit hole, here’s a friendly reminder: don’t get too caught up in the numbers game.
Sure, SEO is essential, but it’s not the be-all and end-all of blogging success. At the end of the day, what matters most is the quality of your content and the connection you forge with your audience.
So, take a deep breath, relax, and focus on creating content that resonates with your readers.
In Conclusion: SEO is Your Blog’s Best Friend, but Quality Content Reigns Supreme
In conclusion, SEO is like the trusty sidekick to your blogging superhero persona. It helps you reach new heights and conquer new territories in the vast expanse of the internet.
But let’s not forget the real hero here: quality content. So, keep honing your writing skills, engaging with your audience, and who knows? With a little bit of SEO magic and a whole lot of creativity, you might just become the next blogging sensation!
